Youth players should prioritize throwing mechanics, footwork, fielding technique, hitting approach, and base running. These five areas form the foundation of performance at every level.

Start with throwing. Learn proper arm mechanics to increase accuracy and reduce injury risk. Practice throwing on the run, making double-play throws, and hitting cut-off men. Footwork is equally important, especially for infielders. Quick feet allow for better positioning and faster transitions.

For hitting, focus on consistency. Rather than swinging for power, concentrate on bat speed, contact, and staying inside the ball. Work off a tee, soft toss, and live BP. Tracking pitches and understanding counts will also elevate your hitting IQ.

Fielding drills should become part of your routine. Take grounders and fly balls from multiple angles. Practice backhands, short hops, and turning two. Make sure to move your feet and stay low.
